Following a lengthy period of uncertainty I am pleased to say that following succesful negotiation 1537 has now been released from the former Transport preservation trusts facility at Beith and moved to a secure location. I thank the Beith administration for the previous 2 years secure storage and recent speedy negotiations and wish them well for all their future projects.
A quick inspection has sadly shown that many parts have been taken from or damaged on the vehicle since the last time I was able to inspect it, however in the grand scheme of things this should be fairly irrelevant and fairly easy to overcome.
I am currently negotiating the aquisition of a replacement engine and gearbox as the originals can be considered 'life expired' as well as other nessecary replacement parts and with a bit of luck the restoration can be recommenced in the coming weeks. In the slightly longer term a full inspection underneath the vehicle (which was in exemplary condition when I purchased the vehicle) will be undertaken and known issues dealt with.
A partial (or full dependant on condition) rewiring is required and original diagrams and an experienced electrician have already been sourced for this task.
Externaly some replacement paneling is required with some specific parts still requiring to be sourced.
Internally little major work is required with the exception of some serious cleaning and a few repairs. However I do require assistance with aquiring seats of the proper moquette on both decks. I do have a substantial amount of the required pattern although many of them are of very poor condition, if you can help please email me at Big_d1503@hotmail.com
After quite a period of inactivity and indeed a little uncertainty over 1537s future, I am hoping that things will take a move forward this year.
Too date some exploratory work has been undertaken on the Gardner engine and some substantial damage has been found in the cylinders. As I am no mechanic I'm afraid much of whats wrong went a bit over my head, however, I have been told that the damage is repairable although I would be as well (financialy) to obtain a new 6LXB engine! As finances become available a decision will be made.
In the meantime things will remain fairly quiet for the time being.
